At Hopper HQ, we understand what it is like have alternative dietary needs. Whether you have coeliac disease, need a low FODMAP diet, suffer from lactose intolerance, have a food chemical intolerance or are at risk of anaphylaxis from eating an allergen, we know the importance of feeling included. We know what it is like to go to a restaurant or café and not trust the food that is supplied, because of a lack of education of staff. We know how you just want to be able to arrive and eat off the menu like everyone else. We know what it is like to be invited (or not invited) to dinner parties and the awkwardness that comes with having to request different foods, bring your own, eat beforehand or risk the subsequent illness that follows when you eat the wrong thing.
Christmas is one of those times in the year when food is a feature of our lives and you cannot easily avoid it. Some people are lucky and are supported by family and friends. Others are not so lucky and have to wrangle with the strange looks, unwelcome comments and limited food options because no one put in the effort to make you feel involved.
Surviving food at Christmas
Whether it is a school end of year parties, a work function, family get together or a street party, if you have food allergies or intolerances, it’s always helpful to be prepared in advance. If you do a big cookup and then freeze and do this regularly, you should always have a range of goodies to use in an emergency.
Keep a stash of party foods such as crackles, cupcakes, sausage rolls or party pies etc in the freezer so you have a range of goodies ready to go. This might not always be possible but even just a couple of items in storage will save you the stress later.
Our Christmas Range
At Hopper HQ, we try to source a range of ingredients and goodies that are suitable for Christmas to make your day a little easier and the food more exciting. We have Plamil Advent Calendars, Bonvita, Plamil and Hopper Xmas chocolates, gluten free plum puddings, Gingerbread Folk gingerbread houses, gingerbread men, Alpro and Orgran dairy free custards, Surf Sweets and Wholesome organic lollies and so much more We hope that you will find something special for yourself or your loved one that means you get to feel involved, even if it is only for one day.
Many children are particularly affected by the range of pre-packaged foods available to people who can eat anything.
Remember Christmas is not just about the food, it is also about spending time with loved ones. If you teach your children that the food is not as important as the people, by focusing on spending time chatting and creating traditions that don’t involve food and you’ll find that suddenly Christmas is far less stressful and more enjoyable for everyone.
